Claims for compensation for injury or property damage under the ConsumerProtectionAct1987 do not generally require the claimant to show that the manufacturer acted in a blameworthy way. That is, StrictLiability applies. Liability extends to the manufacturers of complete products and of components. However, a component manufacturer may escape liability if he can show that the defect was the result of receiving an inadequate specification from the producer of the complete product.
