The K-Zone: R v Turner (1971)
Ths case ([1971] 2 All ER 441) demonstrates that it is
possible to `appropriate' property that one already owns,
and thereby be convicted of theft if the elements of the
mens rea are present. Turner took his car to a
garage for repairs, then took it away without paying.
Since the appropriation was dishonest, and he did
`intend to permanently deprive' the current possessor
of the car, this meant that a conviction for theft
was possible.
