Acaster warning
Last modified: Thu Feb 23 16:37:37 2006
From Rex v Acaster (1912) 7 Cr App R 187, an `Acaster warning' is a warning
to a person who is about to give evidence against his or her spouse that
he or she cannot be compelled to do so (see CompellableWitness).
In RVPitt1982 the CourtOfAppeal stated that it was desirable that any
wife be warned that she is not obliged to give evidence against her
husband before she takes the oath. Presumably this direction would apply to men
giving evidence against their wives, too.
