Al-Fayed v Secretary of State for Home Department (2000)
Last modified: Thu Feb 23 16:37:37 2006
[2001] Imm AR 134 (CA). The claimant appealed against a decision of the
Home Secretary not to grant naturalization on the grounds, inter
alia, that the failure to give reasons for the decision revealed
bias. The court held that there was no general duty for the Home
Secretary to give reasons for his decision, but that he should still
be bound by the general rules of fairness. In this case, there was no
evidence that he had acted unfairly, and so the claim failed.
