Alexander v North Eastern Railway (1865)
Last modified: Thu Feb 23 16:37:37 2006
(1865) B & S 340. The claimant bought an action in defamation against the
claimant, which had published an imputation that he had been sentenced to
three weeks' imprisonment. In fact, he had been sentenced only to two weeks'
imprisonment. Nevertheless, the defendants' claim of justification was accepted
by the court -- the imputation need only be substantially true, not perfectly
true in all particulars.
