Registered land
Last modified: Thu Feb 23 16:37:37 2006
`Registered land' is short-hand way of writing `land over which there exists at
least one RegisteredTitle. It's a rather sloppy term, because it is the InterestInLand
that is registered, not the physical land itself. This has to be the case, because the
same plot of land may be subject to more than one registered title -- a freehold
and a leasehold may exist at the same time, for example. Owing to the extension
of CompulsoryRegistration to the whole of England and Wales, the proportion of
land which is registered in now increasing rapidly. Current about 80% is registered.
