report stage
Last modified: Thu Feb 23 16:37:37 2006
After a new Bill has been discussed in
the CommitteeStage, it is reported to the whole House, including
any ammendments made in committee. It is possible to move further
ammendments at this stage, and the proposer of the Bill may move
ammendments to give effect to undertakens given in committee. With
Government Bills, it is not unusual for the Opposition to attempt to
force further ammendments, sometimes with a view to slow the passage
of the Bill. The Speaker is empowered to decide which
ammendments are open to debate, and which are not. It is therefore
unusual for Opposition ammendments to be accepted at this stage.
After report -- sometimes immediately after -- the Bill receives
its ThirdReading.
