Waste

An archaic, but widely used, term in land law that means `alteration'. Strictly
speaking, `waste' need not be detrimental to the land or property -- improvements are
sometimes referred to as `ameliorating waste'.Active alterations to
the state of the property are referred to as `voluntary waste'; alterations that
follow from an omission to prevent them are `permissive waste'.
These days the term `waste' usually arises in the discussion of a
TenantsLiabilityForDisrepair; see that article for more details.
